Before taking Vardenafil

Levitra is a safe and effective therapy for treating ED in males; still it is a prescription drug and should be taken with caution especially if you have other diseases or if you are taking certain medications.

Do not take this drug together with nitrates. Nitrate medicines are prescribed for chest pain or heart problems. Sexual activity itself may be not recommended for people who have heart problems. The list of most common nitrates is: nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate.  If you are taking so called recreational drugs such as amyl nitrate or nitrite (“poppers”) you should not take Vardenafil. Nitrates in combination with Levitra can cause dangerous conditions for your health. These drugs should be administered separately from each other.

If you are suffering from the following conditions, your doctor will adjust you the dose of the drug or you will have to undergo special tests:

  • heart disease or heart rhythm problems;
  • a recent history (in the past 6 months) of a heart attack, angina (chest pain), or congestive heart failure;
  • a recent history of stroke or blood clots;
  • high or low blood pressure;
  • liver disease;
  • kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis);
  • a blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia;
  • a stomach ulcer;
  • retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye);
  • a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie’s disease).

Vardenafil postmarketing experience has shown that the drug can decrease blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. This has happened in a small number of people taking this drug most of whom suffered from heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems.  It is not proved if the drug is the actual cause of vision loss. Still stop using Vardenafil and get emergency medical help if you have vision decrease or sudden vision loss.
